Britain’s Racial Future
Less than two thirds white.
I’m largely ambivalent about this prospect, but find it pleasing that the number of mixed race children has risen to 3.5%. I doubt that it’ll stop there and with any luck in a few generations time we’ll end up pretty thoroughly blended. Our hopes of wiping out racism completely depend upon as much.
The article is worth a read for the utterly disingenuous comments of David Davies:
My worry has nothing to do with people’s skin colour but whether those people are integrating and accepting the customs and cultures of this country.
“The issue is one of integration which is now more important than ever that those large number of people with different coloured skin join in with British society.
…Right.
He continues to say:
“The problem comes when large numbers of people of all ethnicities who are not willing to use the language, who are abusing our system and who are demanding that laws are changed to accommodate them.”
So, if it is a problem for all ethnicities then why bring it up when asked about findings solely and exclusively about race?
Tony Benn, of course, says words to the effect of “Well that should make things more interesting” and calls us “lucky”. Which is rather sweet, really.
